The best Medical School in the whole world has received an unlimited amount of funding from a very wealthy supporter. They are now offering totally free tuition for candidates who meet and agree to the entrance criteria, but that’s not all. In addition to the full paid tuition they are going to make sure that you excel in your studies by giving you a full time tutor who will shadow you during your schooling process until you graduate. He will go with you to your classes, labs and be with you when you study at home or in the library. He has full knowledge of the medical field and his goal is to counsel and teach you until you graduate. One major difference from a regular curriculum college is that you will be given unlimited chances to pass all your courses. If you fail a class your personal counselor will assess what it will take to help you master the course. He will work with you personally until you pass all your tests. You see, this college is designed so that everyone will eventually graduate as long as they stick with the guidance from their tutor. Once a person graduates, he or she can expect to end up with the best job they could ever have hoped for.
The University would like for you to give your 100% and not allow anything to interfere with your studies. They will be investing a lot into you and would expect your complete attention always. They also have a very high standards they expect from every student that is enrolled. They have many different tests that will tell them where your real priorities and attentions are. The person who provided this funding obviously paid an extremely high cost for each and every student to receive this opportunity so the standards they have are not negotiable.
This may seem like a far-fetched opportunity to some but I am going to demonstrate how this is very much a reality. I know that most people may be intimidated at the thought of even going to Medical School. They know it is a lot of hard work and dedication. They also know that doctors are among the most respected men and women around. Before they are given a medical degree they have to be tested to some of the most rigorous standards. Any medical doctor can tell you that they had to really make their studies a high priority. They don’t just give those degrees away, one has to work for it.
Most people who are given this type of opportunity would definitely consider it. They may count the cost and realize it is something they choose not to do because of the sacrifice involved. I know people may consider living by a higher standard in order to get this type of opportunity, but how many of us overlook the school that the creator of the universe would like to take us through? His Son Jesus paid the ultimate price for us to be able to become friends with God again. Part of the command that came from Jesus was to go make disciples. There is also a promise that he will send the Holy Spirit who is said to be our counselor, teacher, and guide. A true disciple is someone who learns from and follows Jesus.
There are many passages in scripture where Jesus described the true cost of being one of his disciples. Some of which are very challenging, such as, “for whoever wants to be my disciple must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will loose it but whoever looses his life for me will find it.” There are many verses like that if you do your research. However, the thing that I came to understand is that before I could actually completely grasp what Jesus taught I had to totally change the direction in my life. I could not comprehend what he was really saying to me until I turned from all my deliberate sin that I was committing against God. He didn’t make those huge demands because he wanted to disqualify us from the very start. Rather, he understood that God was giving us a way out through the sacrificial death of His only Begotten Son and that in itself requires a response of total surrender and devotion to His Lordship. Part of making Him Lord is following His teaching. Jesus also said that if you held to His teaching that you would know the truth and the truth would set you free. This truth is not very popular in the modern day church but it was the only message Jesus ever taught. From the very begging of his ministry he preached to turn away from sin and to follow him. But he never expected us to do that if he did not have a way to empower us before hand.
The Bible says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts” The thing I had to come to accept was that I was a man who was very skilled in doing evil. It was going to take some deliberate action to unlearn some of my ways. Take a carpenter who has been building houses for 20 years for example. If you were to try and teach him to become a gourmet chef he will have to start over from scratch. There would not be much of his carpenter skills that will help him in this new profession. Furthermore if this carpenter really wants to become a cook he will have to humble himself and learn an entirely new trade. That kind of reminds me of when Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. I had to humble myself and allow him to teach me how to live a righteous life. I didn’t know how to do that, but I understood that since he died for me there was no other logical thing for me to do. That is the nature of a true faith in him.
When I was given the opportunity to learn from and follow Jesus it was like I was given the opportunity to go to the most advanced school in the whole universe. I also received the counselor who is the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things and lead us into all truth. It says he will comfort us, reveal things to us about the kingdom of God. How many of you want the real scholarship to learn from the Son of God who gave his life for you?
The Bible says that my people perish for lack of knowledge. I meet so many people who think they know about the Lord but I can tell something is amiss. I can tell that Jesus is not the most important thing in their lives. I can tell they will affirm they know Him but they deny Him with their actions.
